Important: Please read the following before attempting to run the CCaLC BIOCHEM tool V2.0. 0. This version of the CCaLC BIOCHEM tool, released in August 2011, represents an updated version of the CCaLC tool V2.0. The main update is that it has been tailored specifically for bio-based systems. It is fully compatible with CCaLC V2.0 and studies created in either of the tools can be shared easily via the menu option 'Share data/Import data' or 'Share data/Import data'. See the user manual for detailed instructions. 1. System requirements The CCaLC BIOCHEM tool is an Excel-based application run by macros. It was designed and built using the English version of Microsoft Excel for Windows XP. The tool may not run properly on non-English operating systems and/or older versions of Windows. CCaLC BIOCHEM is designed for use on PCs and is not suitable for use on Mac computers. 2. Security settings In order for the CCaLC BIOCHEM macros to work correctly, the Excel security settings should be set to either Medium or Low. In Excel 2003, on opening the tool, click on 'Enable macros' when prompted. In Excel 2007 and 2010, on opening the tool, click on 'Security Warning - Options'and select 'Enable this content'. 3. Using Excel version 2007 and 2010 To see the CCaLC BIOCHEM menus in Excel 2007 or 2010, click on the Add-ins tab on the main menu-bar. The menu items will be displayed on the left hand side of the main menu-bar. When saving the CCaLC BIOCHEM tool with your studies, it is IMPORTANT to save it as Excel 97-2003 file type; otherwise, the studies will not be saved. To do this: In Excel 2007: from the File menu, choose Excel Options/Save and Save as file type: Excel 97-2003 workbook (.xls) In Excel 2010: from the File menu, choose File/Options/Save and Save as file type: Excel 97-2003 workbook (.xls) 4. CCaLC BIOCHEM manual The manual can be found as a pdf file under the CCaLC Help menu option. 5. Learning how to use CCaLC BIOCHEM The easiest way to learn how to use the tool is to load one of the built-in case studies and examine/modify them. These are available on the top page of the tool and can be accessed by clicking on any of the coloured boxes provided. 6. Terms and conditions CCaLC BIOCHEM is free of charge. By using the tool, the user accepts the following terms and conditions: • To use the tool solely for their own purposes • Not to use the tool for any income-generating consulting services • Not to copy or distribute the tool to a third party. 7.
